SERAFINO WINE DINNER AT STELO

An exclusive evening awaits wine lovers and enthusiasts on Thursday 27 August, as Stelo hosts a special dinner featuring Serafino’s Head Winemaker Brett Smith. This event promises an intimate celebration of Italian heritage, the unique terroir of McLaren Vale, and the joy of pairing exceptional food with outstanding wine.

A Night Rooted in Heritage and Craft

The story of Serafino began in the 1960s when Serafino “Steve” Maglieri emigrated from

Italy to Australia. Alongside his father Giovanni, Steve planted vines in McLaren Flat, laying the foundation for what would become a respected family-owned winery. Today, the legacy continues with Steve’s daughter Maria and grandson Gian, supported by Brett Smith and the Serafino winemaking team.

This dinner offers guests a chance to connect with this rich history through the wines and stories shared by Brett. Each wine reflects the character of McLaren Vale, a region known for its diverse climate and soil that produce a wide range of styles.

The Evening’s Experience

The event begins at 6.00 pm with a welcoming glass of Serafino sparkling wine and a canapé. This sets the tone for an evening focused on the pleasure of well-matched food and wine.

Chef Nathan Johnston has crafted a four-course menu designed to complement the Serafino wines. Each course will be paired with a carefully selected wine, introduced by Brett Smith, who will share insights into the winemaking process and the unique qualities of each bottle.

Guests will enjoy a side-by-side tasting of Shiraz wines, highlighting the differences that terroir and winemaking choices bring to this iconic variety.

Exploring the Wines of McLaren Vale

Serafino’s vineyards span a range of microclimates within McLaren Vale. The cooler, late-ripening Shark Block near the foothills is particularly notable. Here, altitude, cool nights, and gully breezes help preserve natural acidity and develop wines with depth, spice, and complexity.

The Sharktooth range, including Chardonnay and Shiraz, exemplifies this terroir. These flagship wines offer a balance of elegance and power, showcasing the potential of McLaren Vale’s cooler sites.

Guests will also taste elegant Grenache, a variety that thrives in the region and adds a lighter, fruit-driven contrast to the lineup.
